The Top [屋頂上]

Visit: July 6, 2012
Address: 台北市士林區凱旋路61巷4弄33號
Number: (02) 2862 - 2255
Website: http://www.compei.com/

I've always wanted to go try one of the restaurants on Yang Ming Shan that overlooks Taipei, and from what I've heard, The Top is the best out of them all. Here it is!

Glazed Stir Fried Pork (京都醬燒骨) $380 NT
京都醬燒骨
I've never ever seen anyone put mayonnaise on top of the ribs...but... okay sure...

Stir Fried Beef with Black Pepper (黑椒牛小排) $360 NT
黑椒牛小排

Crispy Chicken (half) (屋頂脆皮雞) (半) $580 NT
屋頂脆皮雞
Even though the skin was crispy, the meat was quite dry. The fact that they decided to decorate the dish with Pringles was a bit of a turn off.

Stir Fried Salty Pork (爆炒鹹豬肉) $360 NT
爆炒鹹豬肉
There wasn't that nice flavor that salty pork usually brings.

Stir Fried Cabbage with Dried Shrimps (櫻花蝦高麗菜) $190 NT
櫻花蝦高麗菜
The shrimp didn't exactly taste very fresh.

The Top wasn't so great in terms of the food or the service. I wouldn't really recommend the restaurants for food, but I would recommend it for the view. The food wasn't nasty, but it wasn't that great either, so if you were to go there, don't expect much in terms of the food, but just go enjoy the view!

Tien He Restaurant [天荷廳]

Visit: June 20, 2012

Deep-Fried Spare-Rib with Pepper and Salt (椒鹽焗肉排) $360 NT
Deep-Fried Spare-Rib with Pepper and Salt
Even though my family and I frequent this restaurant, we've never actually gotten this dish. When I had the spare rib, I can't believe what I've been missing out for the past ten years every time I sat came. I loved the fried minced garlic, the flavoring of the whole dish, and the way the spare ribs were fried,

Deep-Fried Spare-Rib with Orange Sauce (君度橙花骨) $360 NT

This would be my dad's favorite dish. The orange sauce wasn't too sour like many of the orange sauces out there, and the spare ribs were pretty tender.

Stir-Fried Cabbage Sprouts with Black Vinegar (烏醋高麗菜) $220 NT

The cabbage is nicely stir-fried, though the stir-fried cabbage sprouts with bacon is also our family's favorite.

Boiled Yam Leaves with Garlic Soy Sauce (蒜香地瓜葉) $220 NT

Another one of our family favorites. It's just a simple veggies dish.

Braised Soybean Curd with Assorted Vegetables in Clay Pot (天荷羅漢齋豆腐煲) $260 NT

Mom's favorite alert! The fried bean curd is really soft and nice, while the flavoring of the clay pot is similarly good.

Tien He isn't a restaurant that you would drive all the way from down town just to go to, but it has pretty decent food. I would recommend those who happen to be on YangMingShan and want somewhere nice to have some food.

The Peak [山頂餐廳]

Visit: May 4, 2012
Address: 台北市士林區格致路124號
Number: (02)2862-2358

I'm so sorry to not have updated my blog in..forever. So honestly, since I had this a month ago, I'll admit that my memory will be a little fuzzy. So enjoy the pictures??

Menu

Tender Bean Curd mixed with Chinese Style Spice Extract (香椿豆腐) 80 NT
Tofu with Chinese Mahogany Sauce
I have no idea why the restaurant has such weird names for the dishes.. but basically this is really tender tofu with Chinese mahogany sauce. The dish is really refreshing and yummy. I definitely recommend this dish.

Yam Thread with Plum Juice (梅汁山藥) 120 NT
Yam Thread with Plum Juice
The yam thread basically melts in your mouth and the sauce was sweet and a bit sour. It's one again refreshing and since I'm in love with plum sauces, I really liked the dish.

Dongpo Meat Slices with Mushroom Braised - 2 Pieces (砂鍋東坡肉 - 2 件) 360 NT
Dongpo Meat Slices with Braised Mushroom
The Dongpo Meat was really fatty and the mushrooms thoroughly cooked. Order the dish if you don't mind the oiliness (:

Minced Meat Fried with Kidney Bean (乾扁四季豆) 200 NT
Minced Meat fried with String Bean
The menu said kidney bean, but I'm pretty sure this is string bean. The restaurant does a pretty good job with this dish.

Sichaun Dried Hot Pepper fried with Strong-smelling Bean Curd - aka Stinky Tofu (宮保臭豆腐) 200 NT
Sichuan Dried Pepper fried with Stinky Tofu
I really like how the stinky tofu was fried beforehand and the seasoning was also nice. This was one of my dad's favorite dishes.... since we order two of these every single time we go to The Peak.

Sego Root Ball fried with Asparagus (百合蘆筍) 280 NT

Sego Root Ball fried with Asparagus
The dish didn't make much of an impression.

Wild Herbs fried with Tree Fruits (樹子山蘇) 250 NT

The vegetable tasted a little too old for my liking, but the rest was okay.

Chicken Leg Meat fried with Sweet & Hot Sauce (左宗堂辣雞) 280 NT
Chicken Leg Meat fried with Sweet & Hot Sauce
Man, you know how I'm into spicy things... the flavoring of the chicken was just amazing. Perhaps it was a little too sour, but the spiciness and the texture of the chicken finally lived up to my expectations.

I really wanted to (but didn't get to) end the night with the honey toast I spotted on the menu, so I'll be looking forward to that during my next visit. Overall, The Peak is a decent restaurant I would recommend. The view is nice since it's on the mountain, but the restaurant doesn't have a very good interior design. Most of the dishes are all solid choices for a night out for dinner, but don't expect to be blown away since most of it is pretty standard.
